Description
Mill House is an 18th-century building, possibly incorporating an earlier structure, with 19th-century alterations. It features a coursed squared stone plinth with brick coping on the left and center, and coursed squared stone with brick dressings on the ground and first floors on the left and center, as well as the ground floor on the right. The first floor on the right is made of red brick with flared headers in Flemish bond. The roof is complex, hipped, and covered with old plain tiles, some of which have lead ridges, and there are various brick stacks.
Originally, the house had two storeys and an attic, with a three-window range and a two-storey single-bay addition on the right. There is a six-panel door to the right of center with an overlight, set within a square porch supported by simple Doric columns and a triglyph frieze at the cornice. To the right of center is a horizontal sash window with a flat brick arch made of rubbed bricks, while a single-pane casement is located to the left of center. A blocked doorway is found at the center, featuring brick quoins and a rubbed brick flat arch, and there is a blocked window opening to the left. A flat brick band runs between the ground and first floors of the original three bays, with 12-pane unhorned sashes on the first floor. There is a false 12-pane sash painted on a blank panel to the left, and the original range has coved eaves.
The left return of the building is rendered, likely over brick, and features Doric giant-order pilasters between and at the ends of the bays. The fenestration is regular, with 16-pane unhorned sashes on the first floor, which have 19th-century cast-iron window boxes. The eaves are coved, and there are three hipped full dormers with two-light casements. The interior has not been inspected.
