Description
Cruck Cottage is a house dating from the 14th century, with a 16th-century cross-wing. It features cruck framing, a limestone rubble base, and large timber-framing. The left side has rendered infill, while the centre and the left and right returns of the cross-wing have brick infill. The roof is thatched with an old plain-tile valley, and there is a brick central ridge stack, along with a lateral stack on the left return of the cross-wing.
The building is single-storey with a three-window range on the left and a two-storey cross-wing on the right. A 20th-century porch has been added to the rear. The windows show irregular fenestration, consisting of casements and sashes. The roof is half-hipped on the left side and has a cross-gable on the cross-wing. The 14th-century portion has three full crucks, while the cross-wing features jointed crucks with curved wind-braces. Some rooms in the 16th-century cross-wing have original doors from that period.
