Description
Dawber's House is a house built around 1911 by Guy Dawber for himself. It features red brick construction and a complex old plain-tile roof with brick stacks. The house has a complex plan and is two stories high with a four-window range. The central entrance has a sash door framed by a wood architrave surround with a pediment. The windows are irregularly placed and consist of metal leaded casements. There are end and lateral stacks with moulded brick bases and caps. At the rear, there is a central loggia beneath a catslide roof, flanked by gabled cross-wings on both sides.
Inside, the entrance hall has a moulded plaster border on the ceiling. There is a straight flight and winder staircase with a lattice balustrade. The sitting room on the left features a shallow arched ceiling with moulded plaster bands and a Georgian-style stone fireplace. The study, originally the dining room, is located at the rear right and has a deeply ribbed wood ceiling, an artisan-style stone fireplace with bronze medallions, and a fitted sideboard in the window recess with later doors at the base. The house retains original panelled doors with brass door furniture.
