Description
The Plough Public House is a public house dating from the early 17th century, with a late 17th-century front and a late 19th-century cross-wing on the left. It features a limestone base and is constructed of red brick with grey brick headers in Flemish bond, topped with an old plain-tile roof and a brick ridge stack located to the right of the center. The building is two stories tall and has a five-window range. To the left of the center is a four-panel door with an overlight, and there is another four-panel door with an overlight and a hood supported by carved brackets in the center. All openings have wooden cross-windows with cambered brick heads. A brick band runs between the ground and first floors, and there is a dentil cornice at the eaves.
At the rear, there is significant timber-framing with brick infill, including a double queen-post truss in the cross-gable on the left. Inside, there is extensive beaming and an open fireplace located in the rear left. The late 19th-century cross-wing on the left features coursed squared limestone on the ground floor and tile-hanging, including fishscale bands, on the first floor, which jetties out at the end.
