Description
The Elizabeth Lane Memorial, located approximately 50 meters east of Baldon House, is a late 18th-century memorial urn made of limestone. The carved urn features a fluted cover with a finial and handles shaped like interlacing snakes. The square base of the urn is inscribed with "M.S./ ELISABETHAE LANE" and stands on a square stone pedestal that has an enriched moulded base and cap. The front of the pedestal is carved with a suspended cloth that bears the inscription "HOC QUALECUNQUE/PIETATIS SUAE/ANIMIQUE GRATI/MONUMENTUN/POSUIT/C:W". Originally, the monument was situated in a wood, where it served as a landscape feature created by Sir Christopher Willoughby.
