Description

The Old Farmhouse is a timber-framed farmhouse, dated 1668, with substantial remodelling and extensions in the early to mid-18th century. It is located on Britwell Hill. The visible structure is a combination of timber framing with colourwashed brick infill on the right-hand side and colourwashed brick on the left. The roof is half-hipped and covered in old tiles, with a brick ridge stack. The house follows a two-unit lobby-entry plan, with two storeys and a 3-window front. A two-storey gabled porch, built in the early to mid-18th century, projects from the front, constructed of chalk rubble with brick dressings and a 20th-century door. The windows include a late 19th-century three-light casement on the left and a 20th-century casement on the right. A single-storey, attic wing was added to the rear right in the early to mid-18th century; this section is built of colourwashed brick and chalk rubble, with a gabled old tile roof and a brick end stack. The interior features ogee-stopped beams and open fireplaces, one with a bread oven. Inscribed plasterwork above the first-floor fireplace on the left displays the date 1668 and the initials "JBH" (John and Mary Baker).
