Description

Chiltern Cottage is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of coursed chalk rubble, with a left side wall of banded flint and chalk. The roof is of gabled old tiles, and there are brick stacks at the right end and on the rear lateral side. Originally, the house followed a two-unit outshut plan. It is two storeys high with a two-window front. The windows are C20 casements, set within segmental brick arches at ground-floor level. C20 casements also feature on the first floor. Brick dentilled eaves are present. Later 18th-century extensions have been added to the rear left, comprising a two-storey, two-bay range, and to the right of the front, a one-storey extension, all built of similar materials. The interior was noted to have chamfered beams, though it has not been inspected. A subsidiary flint rubble wall with brick bands and saddleback coping is located to the rear left.
