Description

The Old Post Office is a house dating from the 17th century, with significant alterations and extensions in the 18th century and around 1950. Originally built with a timber frame, the front facade is now of random bond brickwork from the 18th century. A rear wing is clad in brick from the mid-20th century. The roof is half-hipped, covered in old tiles, with a brick ridge stack at the rear. It has an L-shaped plan, incorporating a rear left wing. The house has two storeys and two windows across the front. The windows are casements with segmental arches over the 20th-century front door and ground-floor windows, and further 20th-century casements to the first floor. Inside the front range are chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and exposed timber framing to the left. The rear wing features a chamfered beam and bressumer over a blocked fireplace. The building is included on the list for its group value.
