Description

Fir Tree Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, now a house, located on the north side of High Street in Chalgrove. The front of the building is roughcast, while the rear retains small timber framing. The roof is tiled, with 20th-century tiles to the front and older tiles to the rear, featuring a brick ridge and rear lateral stacks. The farmhouse has a three-unit plan and a 3-window front. A 20th-century door and porch have been added to the front, and the windows are 20th-century casements. A 17th-century ogee-headed doorway is blocked at the rear. A 18th-century stone outshut is located at the rear right of the building. Inside, there are chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and an ovolo-moulded bressumer over the open fireplace. The first floor was not inspected but is likely to be of interest. The building is included on the list for its group value.
