Description
The Well House is a late 17th-century house located on Coles Lane in Chalgrove, which also includes No. 79 High Street on the north side. The building features small timber framing, a half-hipped and gabled old tile roof, and a brick ridge stack on the right. It has a two-unit plan, stands one storey high with an attic, and has a two-window range. The front includes a 20th-century door and casement windows, some of which contain 16th-century quarries. Inside, there are chamfered beams, an open fireplace, and winder stairs. The structure has jowled and braced posts supporting a two-bay queen-post roof with clasped purlins and windbraces. There is also a panelled door leading to a bacon curing chamber in the right stack.
