Description

A pair of mid-18th century cottages, extended in the 20th century, stand on the west side of the A423. The cottages are constructed of brick in English bond, identifiable by the flared brick headers to the windows, and have an old plain-tile roof with a brick chimney stack. Each cottage has a 2-unit plan, with extensions to the rear. They are arranged with one storey and an attic. The front of the cottages features a dentil eaves course and segmental arches over two-light, plank-shuttered casement windows that flank central windows, replacing what were originally doorways. Each cottage has two gabled dormers and shares a central chimney stack. The gable walls have been rebuilt. Internally, the cottages remain uninspected. They are part of an estate village built around 1760 for the 1st Earl Harcourt.
