Description

This is a pair of mid-18th century cottages, extended in the 19th century. They were built as part of the estate village of Nuneham Courtenay around 1760 for the 1st Earl Harcourt. The cottages are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with some flared headers, and have an old plain-tile roof. Each cottage has a 2-unit plan and a one-storey plus attic configuration. The frontages of the cottages are chequered in brick and feature a dentil eaves course. They have segmental arches over the windows, which are 2-light plank-shuttered casements, flanking where former doorways once stood. Each cottage has two gabled dormers and they share a central stack. The gable walls have been rebuilt. A 19th-century extension to the rear is present at No. 30. The interiors were not inspected.
