Description
32 and 33 on the A423 are a pair of cottages built in the mid-18th century, with a 20th-century extension. They are constructed of brick in Flemish bond with some flared headers, and feature timber framing with brick infill. The cottages have an old plain-tile roof and a brick chimney stack. Each cottage has a two-unit plan and is one storey plus an attic, with two-window fronts in chequer brick that include a dentil eaves course and segmental arches. No. 33, on the right, has two-light plank-shuttered casements flanking a central doorway with a plank door. No. 32 has three identical casements, with the central window replacing the former doorway. Both cottages have two gabled dormers and share a central stack. The right end wall has been rebuilt, while the left end wall retains a timber-framed gable and connects to a 20th-century rear extension. The interiors have not been inspected. These cottages are part of the estate village built around 1760 by the 1st Earl Harcourt.
