Description
Nos. 7 and 8 are a pair of cottages located on the A423 in Nuneham Courtenay. They were built in the mid-18th century, with extensions added in the 19th century and some parts rebuilt in the 20th century. The cottages are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, featuring some flared headers, and include timber framing with brick infill. They have an old plain-tile roof with a brick stack.
The cottages have a two-unit plan and are one storey plus an attic high. The front of No. 7, which is on the left, has a two-window arrangement in chequer brick, with a dentil eaves course and segmental arches. It features a central plank door flanked by two-light plank-shuttered casements. No. 8 has been rebuilt and has two casements. Both cottages have two gabled dormers and share a central stack. The left gable wall has been rebuilt, while the right gable wall retains a timber-framed gable and connects to a small 19th-century extension. The interiors have not been inspected. These cottages are part of the estate village that was built around 1760 for the 1st Earl Harcourt.
