Description

A pair of cottages dated to the mid-18th century, with later 20th-century extensions. The cottages were constructed as part of the village created around 1760 for the 1st Earl Harcourt and are located on the west side of the A423. They have a brick façade in Flemish bond, with some flared headers, and timber framing with brick infill. The roofs are covered in old plain tiles, with a shared brick stack. Each cottage originally had a two-unit plan, extended to the rear. The fronts of the cottages are one storey tall with an attic, featuring a chequered brick pattern and a dentil eaves course, with segmental arches above the windows. The windows are 2-light casements with plank shutters, flanking windows that replaced former doorways. There are two gabled dormers on each cottage. The right gable is timber-framed, while the left gable has been rebuilt and connects to a two-story 20th-century extension. The interior has not been inspected.
