Description
These are a pair of cottages located on the A423 in Nuneham Courtenay, dating from the mid-18th century. They are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, featuring some flared headers, and include timber framing with brick infill. The cottages have a plain old-tile roof with a brick stack and are designed with 2-unit plans, standing one storey plus an attic.
Each cottage front has two windows, with a brick dentil eaves course and segmental arches. They each feature three 2-light casements, with the central windows replacing former doorways. Both cottages have two gabled dormers and share a central stack. The left gable wall is fully timber framed and retains its principal timbers, while the rebuilt right gable wall retains some timbers in the gable. The interiors have not been inspected.
These cottages are part of the estate village built around 1760 for the 1st Earl Harcourt.
