Description

The Old School House is a mid-18th century brick school building, now a house. It was built as part of the estate village around 1760 for the 1st Earl Harcourt. The brick is laid in Flemish bond, with old plain-tile roofs and rebuilt brick stacks. The building has a symmetrical three-window front, featuring a storey band and dentil eaves course. The first floor has 2-light casement windows, while the ground floor originally had a central 4-panel door with a rectangular overlight and a flat canopy supported by brackets. The flanking ground floor windows have since been altered to 3-light casements. End outshuts are slightly recessed and feature segmental-arched windows, with one being blind. The main roof is hipped, with two gabled roof dormers and two tall stacks rising from the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
