Description

A pair of cottages dating from the mid-18th century, located on the A423 in Nuneham Courtenay. The cottages were built as part of the estate village constructed around 1760 for the 1st Earl Harcourt. They are built of brick in Flemish bond, with some flared headers, and incorporate timber framing with brick infill. The roofs are covered with old plain tiles, with a central brick stack. Each cottage has a two-unit plan and a single storey plus attic. The fronts have two-window arrangements, featuring a dentil eaves course and segmental arches above the windows. The windows are plank-shuttered casements, flanking central windows that replaced earlier doorways. Each cottage has two gabled dormers. The gable walls have been rebuilt, but the left gable retains some original timber framing. The interiors remain uninspected.
