Description
Nos. 13 and 14 are a pair of cottages located on the A423 in Nuneham Courtenay. They date from the mid-18th century and were extended in the 20th century. The cottages are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, featuring some flared headers, and include timber framing with brick infill. They have an old plain-tile roof with brick stacks.
Each cottage has a two-unit plan and is one storey plus an attic high. The front facades have two windows, with a dentil eaves course and segmental arches. Central windows have replaced blocked doorways, positioned between two-light plank-shuttered casements. Both cottages feature two gabled dormers and share a central stack. The left gable of No. 13 is timber framed, while the gable wall of No. 14 has been rebuilt and leads to a large 20th-century extension. The interiors have not been inspected. These cottages are part of the estate village built around 1760 for the 1st Earl Harcourt.
