Description

Numbers 1 (Crossways), 2, and 3 are houses that have been converted into two dwellings, with an attached house. They likely date from the mid-17th century, with some alterations made in the 18th century. The buildings feature irregular timber framing with painted brick infill and a thatched roof that is half-hipped on the left side. There is a brick lateral stack at the rear and a ridge stack to the right of the center. The structure is single storey with an attic and has a two-window range that runs at right angles to the street. The central entrance has a plank door, with a horizontal sash window to the left and a three-light wood casement window to the right. There are two raking dormers with old plain-tile roofs and two-light casements.

On the left side facing the street, the building is constructed of red brick and features a central door, with two-light casements on either side and in the attic. Inside, there is a Queen-post roof with windbraces and a winder staircase that leads from the ground floor to the attic at the rear right of the center. The ground floor includes an open fireplace located to the right of the center and a lead-lined shallow basin on brick piers also on the ground floor to the right.

Attached at right angles to the right is a 19th-century house, which has a lined render on brick, an old plain-tile roof, and a brick end stack on the right. This house is two storeys high with a two-window range and features a central plank door with two-light casements in all openings.
