Description

Redhill Farmhouse is an early 17th century and 18th century farmhouse. It is built with roughcast timber framing and limestone rubble, featuring squared quoins. The roof is thatched, with areas of old plain tiles, and includes brick stacks. Originally a two-unit lobby-entry plan, it is now arranged as an L-shaped building. The two-window front of the early timber-framed section has a central door, with three-light casement windows on either side at both ground and first floor levels. There are also small casement windows above the door and to the extreme right. A hipped thatched roof sweeps up over the first-floor windows, and a central chimney has side strips. A 18th century rubble cross-wing projects to the front, featuring an old plank door beside a three-light casement window and a two-light half dormer. This wing’s roof has a gable stack and is half-hipped at the rear. At the rear of the main range, an early 17th century four-light wood-mullion window with ovolo moulding is set forward of the wall face, above a moulded sill. Inside, there are remains of an open fireplace with a cambered bressumer, heavy chamfered beams, and old plank doors with wooden latches.
