Description

No. 5 Gravel Hill is an early 19th-century building with some late timber framing visible within the side passage. It has bracketed eaves and a hipped slate roof. The street-facing elevation is of painted brick, arranged over three storeys with two sash windows featuring glazing bars on each floor. The ground floor has been altered with a later canted shop window and a door featuring a semi-circular fanlight. A carriageway entrance is located under the eastern end of the building.

The raised pavement and surrounding wall form part of a group with Nos. 5 to 19 (odd), the South Oxfordshire Technical College Old School and Main Buildings, Nos. 43 to 49 (odd), the wall and gate piers relating to the former Paradise House, Ancastle Cottage (Nos. 2 to 36 even), and the pavement surface opposite Nos. 2 to 36 (even). Ancastle Cottage also contributes to a group featuring entrance walls, piers, gates, and the lower lodge of Friar Park.
