Description
The Roebuck Inn is an inn that dates from the late 17th century, with 20th-century additions and alterations. It consists of two sections built from squared coursed ironstone, topped with steeply pitched roofs covered in 20th-century tiles. The building features brick stacks at the ridge and ends.
The left section has a one-unit plan and is two storeys tall, plus an attic, with 20th-century windows and a skylight. It also has single-storey additions and a coped stone gable. The right section has a two-unit plan, is two storeys tall, plus an attic, and has a two-window range. The approximately central entrance features a square-headed doorway with moulded stone architraves and a cornice, decorated with egg and dart motifs. The original ledged and battened wood door, complete with strap hinges, is topped by a 20th-century hood. Flanking the entrance are two-light stone-mullioned windows with simple splay, which have partly renewed hood moulds and label stops. There is a small opening casement within the left mullion. On the first floor, there are two similar windows located partly above the eaves, along with a 20th-century skylight. The right gable includes 20th-century windows set in original openings, which are topped with stone flat arches.
Inside, the building features stop-chamfered beams, a stone angle fireplace, and a circular stairwell leading to the cellar and another stairwell to the first floor.
