Description

Grange Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1683, with parts that may be older. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features wooden lintels, topped with an old plain-tile roof and brick stacks. The building is laid out in an L-shape with additional subsidiary ranges and stands two storeys high plus attics.

The front of the house has a regular arrangement of four windows and a four-panel door located to the left of the centre. The windows are mostly 4-pane late 19th-century sashes, except for a French window to the left of the door. A datestone in the centre of the first floor is inscribed with "16/I/II/83". The roof is hipped to the left and extends over the rear wing, which features a tall stair casement and a small leaded casement for the upper flight, along with a pair of renewed cross windows above the 4-pane sashes. There are two roof dormers facing left, and both gables have old brick stacks.

A later section fills the L-shape and includes a re-used leaded cross window. This section connects to a two-storey range that projects to the right and may be older than the main house; it has an irregular three-window front with two entrances and a loft door. Inside, there is an oak dog-leg stair that rises to the attics, featuring heavy turned balusters and knob finials. The initials on the datestone likely refer to John and Jane Jones.
