Description
Launton House is a substantial late 18th-century house, likely built for John Ashby. It is constructed of brick in Flemish bond with limestone-ashlar dressings and features old plain-tile roofs with brick end stacks. The building has an L-plan and stands three storeys tall. The symmetrical front has three windows and a central doorway, which is framed by a triangular-pedimented and pilastered stone doorcase. The doorway contains a six-panel door with an ornamental overlight and panelled reveals, and all windows have moulded stone architraves. The ground and first-floor windows are fitted with 12-pane sashes, while the second-floor windows have 6-pane sashes. The doorway is partly covered by a glazed canopy supported by 19th-century cast-iron columns. An ashlar plinth and brick parapet extend around the sides, returning on the left to the rear wing. The left side features projecting stacks flanking pairs of sashes with rubbed and gauged flat arches, and the rear has similar windows. The house was noted as existing in 1797.
