Description

This is a farmhouse, now divided into two houses, Greystones House and Greystones Cottage. The main part of the house dates back to the 18th century, with later additions primarily from the early 19th century. The construction is of coursed limestone rubble with a gabled Welsh slate roof, and end stacks finished with stone and brick. The building is in an L-shape, with a wing extending to the rear. The front elevation is symmetrical with three windows, and features a semi-circular arch over a 19th-century six-panelled door, which includes a fanlight. Eight-pane sashes are set within keyed stone lintels. A raised storey band runs along the front. The rear wing incorporates a former stable, and has timber lintels over early 19th-century plank doors, two-light leaded casements, and glazing-bar sashes. It also features doveholes and plank shutters over the stable. The 18th-century range to the right has a gabled stone slate roof with a ridge stack that has a late 19th-century brick finish. This section has keyed stone lintels over the front windows and a 19th-century plank door, along with two-light leaded casements in the right gable end. The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to contain features of interest. There are attached limestone rubble walls, approximately 27 metres long and over 3 metres high, with stone slate coping, running along the front and flank of the front garden.
