Description
This chest tomb, located approximately 30 meters southeast of the chancel of the Church of St. Mary, is dedicated to Roger Mathew and his wife Anne and dates from the 17th century, specifically around 166?. It is made of limestone and features a slab top with hollow mouldings and chamfered sides. The chest has panelled sides adorned with strapwork decoration and is supported by Tuscan columns. The inscription on the tomb reads: "Here lyeth the bodies of Mr. Roger Mathew and Anne his wife. She departed this life the 26th April 166?. He being -(?) of this parish fiftie yeares -(?) 1657."
