Description
Crossways is a house that was originally three cottages and a shop, dating from the 17th to 18th century. It is built from regularly coursed ironstone rubble and features a steeply pitched thatch roof. The building has four brick stacks on stone bases located at the ridge and ends, and is designed in an L-plan layout with a single storey plus an attic. The front has a four-window range, with 20th-century doors, windows, and lintels on the ground floor, along with a 20th-century porch to the right. There are two blocked doorways, while the attic contains two 20th-century casements and three three-light casements with wrought iron casement fasteners. Inside, the property features stone flag floors, chamfered beams, and a straight flight staircase with winders. The roof structure includes principals with short curved feet, through purlins, tie beams, and a saddle. The building is prominently situated at the corner of Merrivale's Lane and Church Street.
