Description

Yew Tree House is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 17th century and was remodelled in the 18th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from regularly coursed ironstone rubble with ironstone quoins and features a 20th-century tile roof. It has three brick stacks located at the ends and off the ridge, all set on stone bases. The layout is a three-unit plan with a single storey plus an attic. The entrance, located to the right, has a wooden lintel and a panelled door. On either side of the door are two 3-light 20th-century casements with stone lintels resting on stone flat arches. In the attic, there are three 2-light casements with wooden lintels.

At the rear, the left side has been rebuilt and includes a 20th-century extension. The right side features a circular staircase projection with small windows, one of which has a cusped triangular head. To the left, there is a 2-light casement with a wrought iron catch, and a 20th-century door and window to the right and in the attic. The roof has a steep pitch.

Inside, the house retains its original layout of a kitchen, hall, and parlour, with three rooms connected by a rear passage. The two rooms on the left have stone flag floors. The central room features a stop-chamfered beam and a chamfered bressumer above the fireplace, which includes inglenooks and a ham curing chamber. There is a stone spiral staircase leading to the cellar, which has a 2-light stone mullioned window at the rear. An oak spiral staircase leads to the attic floors, although it has been partially rebuilt in the 20th century. The first floor has wide planks.
