Description

This chest tomb, dated 1682, is located approximately 1 meter east of the chancel of the Church of St. Michael in Barford St. Michael. It is a 17th-century structure made of ironstone and features bold floral carvings surrounding a central wreath that contains the inscription: "Here lyeth the body of John Nicholls Gent who deceased the 15 of December 1682 aged 63." The tomb has a moulded, chamfered ledger slab, and the ends are adorned with a boldly carved wreath and an angel flanked by drapes above crossed bones.
