Description
Wykham Mill Farmhouse and attached shop is a farmhouse, now functioning as a house, dating from the early 17th century with later additions. It is constructed of ashlar ironstone and features a steeply pitched slate roof, with brick end stacks on rendered stone bases. The left wing has a stone end stack, and the building is characterized by store copings with kneelers, ironstone quoins, and a plinth. The structure is L-shaped, with two storeys plus an attic and a three-window range.
The central entrance has moulded wooden jambs, a panelled door, and an overlight with a geometrical pattern. This doorway is flanked by two three-light wood-mullioned windows with wood lintels. The first floor has three windows, including two three-light casements and a small fixed light, all with wood lintels. There are also two hipped roof dormers with opening casements. The left wing contains two entrances, one of which leads to a bookshop.
At the rear, there are two canted bay windows with hipped, tiled roofs, a three-light wood-mullioned window, and renewed casements. Most of the wood lintels are original, with some featuring stop-chamfered detailing. The interior includes stone flag floors, plank or panelled doors with wrought-iron hinges, stop-chamfered beams, and chamfered joists. There are inglenooks with chamfered bressumers, and the left wing has a fireplace with a stop-chamfered beam and a bread oven, as well as a wooden winder stair.
