Description
Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid 18th century. It is constructed of regularly coursed ironstone rubble and features a steeply pitched thatched roof with four brick stacks at the ends and along the ridge. The gables are stone-coped with moulded kneelers. The building has a four-unit plan, likely formed by extending two original units into four.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a three-window range. There are two entrances, each with panelled doors and surrounds topped with keyblock heads; one has a hood while the other features a 20th-century porch. On the ground floor, there are a single wood casement and a three-light wood casement, both with stone lintels. The first floor has three 20th-century windows set in the original two- and three-light openings, also with keyblock heads on stone lintels. A large bread oven projection is located at the right end of the building.
An attached outbuilding range on the left, which is not included in the listing, has had its roof lowered, creating a gable-shaped opening in the roof of the farmhouse to the left, which is now blocked. Inside, the farmhouse features chamfered beams and fireplaces with bressumers that were fronted around 1900. There is also a bacon curing chamber and a cellar with a stone flag floor and worn stone steps.
