Description
Hill House is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the 17th century with an 18th-century wing. It features a datestone marked ?W/1727 and is constructed of regularly coursed ironstone rubble with a 20th-century tile roof. The building has an L-plan layout and stands two storeys plus an attic.
On the garden front, there is a three-window range with an entrance to the left that is enclosed in a 20th-century porch. To the right, there are two windows, and on the first floor, there are three windows, most of which are wood mullioned and transomed. Some windows have wrought iron casement fasteners and wood lintels. A single gabled attic dormer is present, and there is stone coping to the right. The gable front of the 18th-century wing to the right is made of squared coursed ironstone and features 24-pane, two-light sash windows on both the ground and first floors, with the first-floor sash likely being original. The attic window has keystoned stone surrounds and lead cames with crown glass, along with stone copings to the gables and kneelers.
Inside, the hall showcases a stop-chamfered bead, stone flag floors, and an inglenook fireplace. The Green Room contains stop-chamfered beams and chamfered joists, along with contemporary panelling and an alcove in the 18th-century wing. The property is noted for having a stone mullion in the cellar and is considered a good example of 18th-century remodelling.
