Description
White Hart Cottages is a house located on Tanners Lane in Adderbury, dating from the mid-17th century, with elements from the 13th and 14th centuries, as well as some early 18th-century features. The building is constructed from coursed squared marlstone and has wooden lintels, topped with a thatched roof and brick stacks.
The layout consists of two units and a single unit, with two storeys. The left side of the four-window front features two bays that are earlier in date. The left bay has three-light wood-mullioned windows with stop-chamfered lintels on both floors, while the right bay has a three-light 18th-century casement window at the ground floor. The later unit includes a plank door and a three-light casement at ground level, with two two-light casements above.
At the rear, there are additional casements, including four splay-mullioned windows in the earlier section and a doorway framed in 17th-century style. All windows are fitted with leaded glazing, including some very old glass in the earlier windows. Inside, there are two open fireplaces and stop-chamfered beams. The right end wall of the earlier section, now internal, features a small 13th or 14th-century window with Y-tracery.
