Description

Two houses, likely dating to around 1830, possibly with earlier origins. The houses are built of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with limestone ashlar dressings, and have Welsh slate roofs with brick gable stacks. Each house has a two-unit plan, with No.3 being two storeys high and Priory Dene three storeys high. The two-window front of No.3, on the left, has a four-panel door set to the left of centre, within a moulded arched frame and overlight. Large two-light windows have elaborate Gothick metal casements; the upper sections feature intersecting tracery with coloured glass, the lower sections feature clear octagonal panes with small square quarries of coloured glass, and some panes are hinged as opening lights. All window openings have ashlar flat arches with chamfered rusticated quoins. Priory Dene is similar in style, but has three-light ground-floor casements flanking a Tudor-arched ribbed door; the second floor has a small two-light casement, the opening light of which has a decorative border. Both houses have roofs of a moderate pitch, with brick dentil eaves courses. The interiors have not been inspected.
