Description

The Islip War Memorial is located at the junction of Bletchington Road and Church Close. It features a medieval-style stone cross with a wheel head on a tapering octagonal shaft. This shaft is set on a broadened octagonal base, which rests on a square plinth. The base of the plinth is chamfered and sits on three low, square steps. The plinth bears the inscription "IN MEMORY OF/ THE GLORIOUS DEAD/ WHO FELL DURING/ THE GREAT WARS/ 1914 – 1918," listing 25 names. Additionally, the chamfered base of the plinth includes the inscription "1939 – 1945," which lists seven names beneath it.
