Description
Cockfosters War Memorial is situated at the junction of Chalk Road and Cockfosters Road. It features a stone wheel-head cross on a tapering shaft, which is set upon a tapering plinth that is square in shape. The plinth rests on a three-stepped base.
The main dedicatory inscription on the front face of the plinth states: IN HONOURED MEMORY / OF THE MEN OF THIS VILLAGE / WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914 - 1918. / (NAMES)
Additionally, the front face of the top step includes a metal plaque that reads: ALSO TO PERPETUATE THE MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL / IN THE YEARS 1939 - 45.
