Description
Poplars is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house, originating from the 17th century with alterations and additions made in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble and ashlar, topped with asbestos tile and slate roofs, and features stone-coped gables along with stone and brick ridge and end stacks. The building has a complex plan and is mainly three storeys high with attics.
The entrance porch, which dates back to the 17th century, is gabled and three storeys tall, featuring a doorway with a 4-centred arched head, a hood mould, and a label stop. Above the entrance, there are 2- and 3-light metal casement windows set in wood frames, with chamfered wood lintels. The top window includes lead cames and crown glass. To the right of the entrance, there are additional windows, including 3-light wood and metal casements with chamfered wood lintels. The attic window also has lead cames and crown glass. A 19th-century addition at the rear includes 12-pane sash windows with wood lintels. Inside, there is an early 17th-century dog-leg stair and a wood mullioned window that was once part of an outside wall.
