Description
Clematis Cottage is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with a roof that was raised at a later date and some 20th-century alterations. It is built from finely jointed coursed, squared ironstone that is nearly ashlar in quality, and has a roof covered with 20th-century tiles. The end stacks feature brick shafts on stone bases. The house has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys plus an attic high, with a two-window range.
The entrance, located to the right, has a four-panelled door with two glazed panels and a wooden lintel. To the left, there are two three-light metal casements set in wooden frames, complete with wrought-iron casement fasteners and stone lintels. On the first floor, there are two renewed three-light casements with painted, chamfered wood lintels. The left gable has a blocked window and two single-light attic windows. A panel on the front wall displays the arms of the company of masons from London, featuring a chevron, towers, a pair of compasses, and mantling. The interior has not been inspected.
