Description

King's Cottage and the cottage to its right are a pair of early 18th-century cottages located in Barford St. John. They are built of regular coursed ironstone rubble with stone slate roofs laid to diminishing courses, and have brick end stacks on stone bases. The cottages have a 4-unit plan and are two storeys high with an attic. The front has a five-window range. A plank door is on the left, set within a moulded wooden frame and protected by a 20th-century wooden lintel; it is flanked by two-light casement windows with wooden lintels. A similar door is on the right. To the right of this door, a window has been blocked with a wooden lintel, next to which are two more two-light casement windows with wooden lintels. The first floor has five two-light casement windows, one of which is blocked. All ground floor windows retain their original wooden lintels. Three hipped attic dormers, topped with stone copings, are visible at the rear. The interiors have not been inspected.
