Description

The Old Rectory is a rectory that has been converted into a house. It features a keystone over the door inscribed with "P/B" (Philip Brown) and the year 1752. The building is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, topped by a gabled Welsh slate roof and moulded stone ashlar end stacks. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high, presenting a symmetrical five-window range. The entrance door, which dates from the 20th century, is adorned with a flat timber hood and a keyed raised architrave. The windows are six-pane sashes with thick glazing bars, also set in keyed raised architraves.

At the rear, there is a three-storey range with earlier origins, featuring early 19th-century six-pane sashes. Inside, the property includes panelled doors and shutters, as well as a fine mid-18th-century panelled room with a moulded cornice and a shouldered overmantel architrave above the fireplace, which has an eared architrave. The kitchen, located at the rear left, has a stone ashlar fireplace from the 18th century. There is also a fine mid-18th-century dog-leg staircase leading to the landing, with turned balusters set on a closed string. The first floor contains late 18th-century two-panelled doors and early 19th-century fireplaces.
