Description

Park Gate House is a house dating from 1735, with graffiti indicating this date to the rear. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a gabled stone slate roof. There are brick stacks on the right and left ends of the front elevation, with the front of the left stack finished in brick. The building follows a T-plan with front and rear left wings. It has two storeys and an attic, with a two-window front. A stone lintel sits above a 20th-century plank door, positioned to the right of a 20th-century window which fills a formerly blocked doorway. Flat stone arches feature above 20th-century three-light (right) and one-light (left) casement windows, and above a hipped dormer. A single-storey left wing has a 20th-century bow window and a flat stone arch over a 20th-century door. On the left side wall, keyed flat stone arches sit above an early 19th-century ten-pane sash window and a mid-18th-century six-pane sash with thick glazing bars. A stair turret is located at the rear. The interior contains chamfered beams and 18th-century two-panelled doors. A fine, mid-18th-century open-well staircase features, with turned balusters set on a closed string.
