Description

Evelyns Farm Nursery is a 17th-century farmhouse, now a house, with a datestone indicating 1676. It is constructed of timber framing with plaster and brick infill, colourwashed brick and stone, and has old plain-tile roofs with brick stacks. The building is arranged in an L-shaped plan. It has one storey and an attic. The brick front of the two-window entrance range has a central doorway between three-light casement windows, all with segmental arches, and two gabled dormers. A half-hipped roof is topped by a central ridge stack. The sides and rear of the building are timber framed. A dated range projecting from the right side displays a similar casement window and dormer, and a stone gable wall with a stack bearing the inscription 'RS/1676'. The right side retains some original timber framing. Inside, the entrance range has a baffle-entry plan, retaining a large open fireplace with stop-chamfered bressumer and a quarter-turn stair with wooden-latched plank doors. The dated range features a stop-chamfered cambered fireplace bressumer.
