Description

The Manor House is a Grade II listed building dating from 1636, as indicated by its datestone. It is constructed from coursed regular ironstone rubble and features a Welsh slate roof laid to diminishing courses, with paired stone stacks and stone copings. The house is designed in an L-plan, comprising a kitchen, hall, parlour range, and service wing.

The garden front has two storeys and includes three gabled dormers that are flush with the wall face. It has three bays, with the entrance located to the right of the centre leading into the hall. A two-storey canted bay window is situated at the parlour end, and there is a four-light stone mullioned window with a hood mould and label stops in the hall. Additionally, there are two- and three-light stone mullioned windows with hood moulds and label stops at both the front and rear of the house. A sundial is located below the central dormer, and there is a cellar beneath the parlour. The rear features a porch from around 1935 and an apsidal stair turret.

Inside, the original layout of the kitchen, screens, hall, and parlour is still recognizable. There is a wooden spiral stair leading to the service wing, and the stone fireplaces, although mostly renewed and re-set, remain a notable feature.

Historically, in the 17th century, the Manor House belonged to the Austin family. The datestone, which includes a crest, is attributed to Robert Austin, who is noted for rebuilding his house during this period.
