Description
Thornbury House is a building located in Kidlington, originally shown on the Ordnance Survey map as County Council Offices. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of stuccoed limestone rubble with a gabled Welsh slate roof and moulded stone end stacks. The house is designed in a late Georgian style and has an L-plan layout with a rear right wing. It stands three storeys tall and features a symmetrical five-window range. The flat hood over the 20th-century door, which includes a fanlight, is supported by foliate-carved brackets. The windows are two-pane plate-glass sashes set in raised architraves, and the building has raised storey bands and a moulded cornice beneath the parapet. There is a stone ashlar porch to the rear left, which has moulded imposts and semi-circular arches leading to a loggia, along with a pierced stone balustrade. The interior has not been inspected, and the 20th-century extensions to the right are not of special architectural interest.
