Description
This is a house located approximately 5 meters southwest of Holly Cottage in Steeple Aston, dated 1729 according to a datestone, with alterations made in the late 18th century or early 19th century. The building is constructed from limestone rubble with wooden lintels and brick, topped with a Welsh-slate roof featuring stone and brick gable stacks. It has a unit plan and stands two storeys plus an attic high.
The front facade has two bays on the left that are taller, featuring a central six-panel door with re-used ovolo-moulded ashlar jambs. To the left, there is a late 18th century or early 19th century canted bay window, and to the right, a 20-pane sash window. On the first floor, there are 12-pane sash windows flanking a circular plaque inscribed "S/?H/1729". The shallow-pitched roof is slightly raised at the eaves and has stone-based stacks on either side of the higher section. The lower bay to the right has no visible openings and is partly obscured by outbuildings. At the rear, there is a hipped-roofed brick stair projection flanked by casement windows. The interior has not been inspected.
