Description

Aston Lodge is a house built in 1824, located on the southwest side of Aston Lane in Aston by Sutton. The building is constructed of brown brick in English garden wall bond and features a hipped slate roof with a lead flat. It stands two storeys high and has five windows, arranged symmetrically. The front has a plinth and a plain band at the upper storey cill level made of painted stone. There is a fascia and cornice at the eaves on all sides, raised at the center of the front with quadrant ends. The house has dated lead rainwater heads and four symmetrically placed brick chimneys, partly clad in slate.

The entrance features a glazed cast iron porch that has been shortened from its original full length, which had bell-cast ends. The front door is an 8-panel design set between Roman Doric pilasters, topped with a looped radial-bar fanlight. The front windows are 12-pane recessed sashes with wedge lintels and stone cills. There is a round-arched tall stair window on the left end, while the other windows on the ends and rear are mostly 16-pane.

Inside, there is a large cellar at the front and central passages that run front to back and side to side, intersecting with a basket-arched crossing. The front room on the right features a contemporary carved stone fireplace, a floral plaster frieze in light relief, and a cornice. The front room on the left has a frieze in heavier relief and a cornice. The two-flight oak stair at the left end of the cross-passage has shaped brackets, stick balusters, and a wreathed handrail. The front left bedroom includes a good stone fireplace with a shaped fire opening, carved with an oak-leaf and acorn pattern.
