Description
The Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th century and 17th century, which has been altered over time. It features an oak frame that has been partly rebuilt in rendered brick, sitting on a partly exposed sandstone plinth, and is topped with a graded grey slate roof. The late 16th century cross-wing on the left is two storeys high and has a gable with herringbone struts. The 17th century long wing on the right displays some small framing in the upper storey at the front and end gable, with almost complete framing at the rear, including arch braces beneath the eaves and in the right gable. Each wing has a rebuilt lateral chimney. The doors and windows have been renewed, and there is a late 20th century rear wing that is in keeping with the original design. Inside, much of the oak frame is still visible in the cross-wing, including the roof structure made of unwrought timbers. The long wing contains two beams with slightly hollowed chamfers.
