Description

This chest tomb, dated 1673, is located approximately 1 meter east of the chancel of the Church of St. Michael in Barford St. Michael. It is a 17th-century structure made of ironstone. The sides of the tomb are boldly carved with floral decorations surrounding a central wreath that bears the inscription: "Here lyeth the body of May the wife of John Nicholls who departed this life the 26 of December Anno 1673." The ends of the tomb feature scallop decorations and a wreath, and it has a moulded and chamfered ledger slab.
