Description
This is a dovecote built in 1719, as indicated by a datestone. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone and has a Stonesfield-slate roof, featuring a square plan. The front of the dovecote has a low doorway with a plank door and a heavy wooden lintel, along with an ashlar band. Each of the four sides has a narrow rectangular opening in the gable, and the front also displays a datestone in an oval recess, although the inscription is now mostly illegible. At the top, a central wooden glover is topped with a weathervane. Inside, the walls are lined with over 1,000 brick nesting boxes separated by stone ledges, and the roof retains its original cross beams.
